After months of negotiations the parties to the the Private Security Sector has finally reached an agreement. Although the agreement has been signed by all parties is must still be submitted to the Employment Conditions Commission and subsequently promulgated by the Minister of Labour. The agreement will only become effective on the 1st of September 2009.
Some of the significant and substantive changes stipulated in the agreement are as follow:
- Female security officers shall receive 34% payment of her basic salary for a period of 4 months while she is on maternity leave.
- Grade E received an 11.5% increase in year 1.
- The introduction of specialised Supervisory, Armed Response, Armed Officer, Controller and NKP allowances at R5.50 per shift;
- Specific regulations were created with regards to the ethical and lawful use of temporary employment services, labour brokers and independent contractors.
